A Right Thinking Town

How can a town endorse a blog? Its quite simple actually – put a link to it on the Town website. It has recently come to the attention of our pro casino friends that the Town of Plympton has not only an official municipal anti-casino website, but they actually have the nerve to provide a link to the wonderfully educational and entertaining Gladys Kravitz blog! What I find so absolutely hilarious about this is the fact that the link to Gladys’ blog has been up on Plympton’s website for months now. Our pro casino friends are so busy trying to convince themselves that this pipe dream will happen, they aren’t paying attention to what area towns have been saying all along…other towns don’t want a casino here – there is no support for the casino from area towns.

Who knew that one little blog could be so upsetting to some….some pro-casino people, that is. Apparently the idea of a town actually speaking out against a casino and supporting anti-casino websites is puzzling to some and down right offensive to others. Give me a break…here is the perfect example of sour grapes….

Yesterday we were driving to Plymouth through Plympton on the new four lane Route 44 and it occurred to me that there would be minimal impact on that town when the new resort casino opens. All I could think of was increased traffic on the expressway particularly after 10:00 PM.
I believe that this roadway was designed to lessen the noise of vehicles as it is set back from residences and has at least one large noise barrier.

I'm puzzled as to why Plympton officials like Joseph Frietas and John Henry have taken such a firm stand against the casino that they would submit a 14 page letter to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. (You can read the official letter from Plympton to the Bureau of Indian Affairs here. ) – Hal Brown posting on his pro casino website

All I have to say is if the pro casino people are still puzzled as to why other town officials have such a firm stance against the casino then they obviously have not been paying attention. Jeez, if they’re so puzzled, why not actually read the 14 page letter submitted by Plympton? It clearly states what their concerns are and why and if you actually read it you may begin to comprehend why this Town is so adamently against the casino….as far as route 44 goes, according to comments by a certain mystery blogger who touts to have the real information – route 44 road improvements will decrease traffic in the area and we should all be bowing before Middleboro and the Tribe for their clever plan to spend the Massachuesetts taxpayers money.

Perhaps the pro side needs to get its story straight…..will it increase traffic or decrease traffic? Kudos to Mr. Brown for at least acknowledging there will be increased traffic. Too bad he can’t envision an additional 20,000 – 40,000 vehicles per day on Route 44.

You known what….Gladys Kravitz has had my attention from the day I read
“What happens in Middleboro won’t stay in Middleboro” . She has kept me informed and entertained through all of this.

I have told her time and again....Gladys, your wit and humor have made me laugh in the midst of this nightmare where otherwise I might just break down and cry.

What I find to be the single best thing about Gladys’ blogs is the fact that what really happened over the past year has been documented and written about by someone who was there….someone who went to every single meeting whether it be a Middleboro Selectman’s Meeting, CRAC, RTF, CMFO, Washington DC, hearings at the State House…or another town’s meeting – some out in Western Massachusetts - about the casino. She has provided us with first hand knowledge of what has been said and done throughout this entire debate – and has kept us coming back for more because her blogs are educational and entertaining. Who else can really say that? Not one single pro casino person from what I have seen and read.

Gladys has kept us in the loop and laughing with such classics such as Dogstock and At the Sign Post up Ahead. Who didn’t totally laugh over her frustrations in Curses! or crack up a the pictures in Votestock?

How about her video in response to the Teachers Union supporting Deval Patricks three casino plan, or her blog about the myth of inevitability. What gets the pro side all worked up is the fact that Gladys Kravitz is a talented blogger who is able to capture and hold the attention of anyone interested in this casino debacle. The stir this discovery of a link to her blog on a Town site from our pro casino friends has really gotten their panties in a bunch and I can't for the life of me understand why…I mean, my goodness…how scandalous and dastardly on the part of Plympton to promote such a talented and well informed anti-casino blogger when they should be remaining neutral or at the very least supporting the efforts of the investors and the Middleboro BOS in promoting the "pros" of their pipedream.....

Yup, in this chick's eyes…..that Plympton really is a right thinking town.

14 pages? What a waste.

The "neutral" Brian Giovanoni's latest committee only needed two pages. One, if you don't count the cover letter.

His previous committee only used 19 pages.

What is Plympton's problem? Do they actually care about their town?

How naive. If they really cared they would sell their town for pennies and give up sovereignty.

Hooray for Plympton!
Never in this entire discussion has Middleboro allowed the facts to be presented. Even the fhoney fagt finder hasn't presented the fagts. And your mystery blogger testified before the BIA about how wonderful it would be to create more problem gamblers so the problem would get the attention it deserves. Flawed logic if there is any. Your comments in defense are appreciated. Gladys is effective and knowledgeable, unlike her critics. Keep disrobing the clowns. They stand naked in their ignorance.

Why THANK YOU, Carverchick! I'm a BIG fan of yours too!

I was very flattered when I discovered that Plympton had linked to my blog. Plympton has a special place in my heart and one of my favorite blog posts, Emerald City was written about it.

As you know, I think this whole hubbub is funny. I mean - where EVER has the town of Middleboro officially been neutral on the casino issue?? Just look at my blog - it's founded on the very NON NEUTRAL actions taken by Middleboro Selectmen.

And another thing that's funny is the attitude of the pro-casino types who JUST DON'T GET that we in the surrounding communities don't want, and in many cases, resent the fact that Middleboro actively promotes a casino while gambling is STILL illegal in our state. Why, it's even written into their agreement that selectmen have to promote it!

Having been born and raised in Middleboro, I find it very depressing how easily town officials sold away their town. But I have been heartened, repeatedly but the actions of officials in other towns who stepped up to oppose this inappropriate monstrosity.

This is just another classic example of some pro-casino folks are unable to see the forest for the casino.

I could go on - and I do - in my blog.

Gladys, your comment certainly explains why the Selectmen are obligated to defend and promote the casino fiasco, but why the mystery blogger? He must believe himself of greater importance than merely Chairman of CRAC.

Fact Inventor promotes the casino because he feels he will some how benefit from it. He is a seller of CRAC. CRAC is what keeps him going. What usefulness to Middleboro would he be without CRAC? Without CRAC, he is nothing. Antagonistic behavior is common for those on CRAC. He must attack Plympton because it will cut into his take on selling CRAC to others. It is an addictive business for Fact Inventor. He has a personal stake in its outcome.

Plypmton is very lucky to have leadership like that. Thats leadership with a capital "N" for NO CASINO. Why would a sleepy little town want a casino, built on trust land, leeching into thier town. This thing will grow into something so huge that it will reach out and touch town's close by. It's not the "Middleboro" casino, it's much , much worse.

Unless there is a 20 foot concrete barrier surrounding this land and monstrosity of a building (and their won't be ANY impact felt beyond the borders of Middleboro), other towns SHOULD and have a RIGHT to present an opinion.

Do the BOS think the residents of Plympton are as brain dead and apathetic as most of the residents of Middleboro?

Good for Plympton for speaking out and not being intimidated by a bullying neighbor who twists the issue around.

Keep in mind that the whining fault finder (HB) supports the casino because it will cause more problem gamblers and attention will be focused on the problem.
That's like saying 'let's serve free liquor to ALL, so we have more alcoholics and ....' you know!
His thinking is so clouded that he refused to link to other casino sites and then posted contemptuous hate names on capital hill blue.
Casino supporters betray themselves by their own hypocrisy because they can't support their own information.

NO only a wall, bur how abour border patrol agents, since it would be sovereign land. Have workers and patrons require passports to re-enter the state. Maybe charge an entry fee.

As anyone familiar with the Middleboro casino debate knows -- CRAC is the acronym of the of the now defunct Casino Resort Advisory Committee appointed by the Town of Middleboro. This acronym should not be confused with anything else.

This acronym crac should not be confused with anything else.

Why would you need to defend it then?

You know its wrong, just remove it.

carverchick said...

I don't feel the need to defend it...but when a person is threatened with a frivolous lawsuit over a blog defending its right to oppose a casino and trying to use an acronym to make their case then I feel the need to define it. Why should I remove an acronym from my blog? I didn't name the committee. I won't remove anything from my blog when it is requested by anonymous.

Anon. 2:02 ...Stop trying CRAC me up.

Anyone with two grey cells to rub together could hardly confuse CRAC with crack. But then, perhaps you are personally operating at a grey cell disadvantage. Or, maybe you have simply broken your funny bone. Who knows?! You are anonymous! How safe and surreptitious of you!

You know a casino in Middleboro is WRONG. Just remove it.

The rapist ran around proclaiming 50,000 vehicles per day. Then we find out there's also 20-30-40 trains per day (an undetermined number as the monster grows and engulfs more land).
Oh, but wait! Look at the scaled back plans. The hotel is only so tall. And the casino is only so big. Sigh of relief!
Oh, but wait! Once Trust Land, all bets are off! (pun intended!)
I've met Jo Freitas. He's a straight-forward, honest guy. Tells it like it is! Wish the Middleboro BOS were the same. The IGA stinks. The location stinks. All surrounding towns have more sense than a single Middleboro Selectman.
Plympton's right!
And Lakeville re-elected Ms. Yeatts.
Get a life! This is wrong!

I cannot believe that a mental health professional would endorse this type of industry!

I also cannot believe that pro casino posters at a certain forum are actually upset by your blog. As soon as a real face is placed on those "statistics", it becomes too much for them. Their only recourse is to nitpick about one comment and threaten a lawsuit against you. Please don't let this stop you from blogging. My wife and I really appreciate what you write about. You are an adament opposer to this casino and you tell it like it is from that point of view, unlike a certain person who says he is neutral yet all his actions say otherwise. Don't let him intimidate you with empty threats. If a lawsuit is his only defense for supporting a casino then he should re-think his position on this issue.
